Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association pushes for stronger sustainability frameworks
Steered by cloud fostering, electronic services and artificial intelligence (AI), regional demand for data centres is forecasted to grow almost 20% yearly through 2028. The International Energy Agency (IEA) projections that Southeast Asia’s information centre electricity use will certainly almost double by 2030 contrasted to 2024– a pattern mirrored across the wider APAC area.
Titled Data Centres and Energy Sustainability: A Regional Perspective on Best Practices and Policy Frameworks, the paper was released on Oct 27 and lays out methods to minimize the environmental impact of information centres while meeting the rising demand for electronic infrastructure in Asia-Pacific (APAC).
Property developers are motivated to team up carefully with regulatory authorities and industry associates to set up consistent power efficiency requirements throughout the APAC markets.
” Balancing energy sustainability with the growing request for digital infrastructure is just one of APAC’s defining difficulties,” says Jeremy Deutsch, chair of APDCA. “With the best plan frameworks, Asia-Pacific governments can ensure that electronic change advances hand in hand with net-zero ambitions.”
The white paper emphasize best practices to enhance power performance throughout the information centre lifecycle– from spot choice, design and building and construction to operations and monitoring. It also recommends plan measures to accelerate access to clean and renewable energy with stronger grid facilities and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
The Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association (APDCA) has released a new white paper calling for tougher regulation and industry partnership to boost power sustainability across data facilities in the region.
Among the examples presented is Singapore’s BCA-IMDA Green Mark for Data Centres (GMDC)– a qualification plan collectively developed by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) to acknowledge information hubs with solid efficiency and energy-efficient process.
The APDCA members consist of leading worldwide operators, such as AirTrunk, Equinix, Digital Realty, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, and Princeton Digital Group.
